Revolutionary Glass Extension
A beautiful country house modernised with a unique glass extension making for a stunning kitchen and living space, with huge glass windows letting light flood into the master bedroom and ensuite for a superbly airy and bright feel.
This 1850s country house in Oxfordshire had very low ceilings with extremely poor insulation. Retaining the original period country house look on the exterior, whilst making it as eco-friendly as possible, for instance replacing the oil boilers with solar panels and air-source heat pumps, gives the house internally a modern feel. By semi vaulting the ceilings on the first floor, the height was created to allow the ground floor ceilings to be raised. Through super-insulating the walls and floors, and using triple glazing, it was possible to create an environmentally friendly economical house that is fit for the future.
The bathrooms in this property play on some of the unusual height features of the structure, for instance the use of false walls in the master bathroom creates a beautiful open bathroom with a sunken bath and walk in shower, with the toilet hidden. A gorgeous freestanding tub in the larger bathroom works perfectly with the classic country house vibe, whilst the modern rain shower combines the contemporary with the classic.
